12.02 Irland:
Irland bør besøkes
Golf i Irland er noe spesielt. Ikke særlig jålete, gode baner og hyggelig miljø.
Golfsiden har flere ganger vært i Irland siden første gang i 1969. Et flott
golfland.
Her er en mulighet til å besøke Irland og noen fine baner.
SLIEVE RUSSELL BRINGS EXTRA JOY FOR IRISH LINKS GOLF LOVERS
Golf groups can enjoy added choice when playing links golf in Ireland in 2020
after PGA National Ireland Slieve Russell announced an increased range of
packages for its new ‘PGA National Ireland West Coast Links Tour’.
Players can now choose from a variety of three, four and five-round packages
when experiencing the many delights of Ireland’s spectacular west coast with PGA
National Ireland – one of only a handful of facilities around the world to be
endorsed by The PGA.
The popular venue in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan, joined forces with County Sligo
Golf Club, Donegal Golf Club and Strandhill Golf Club at the end of last year to
launch the ‘PGA National Ireland West Coast Links Tour’.
Based at PGA National Ireland, the new breaks are available to golf groups of
eight or more people and offer access to four outstanding 18-hole championship
courses – three links and one parkland – with all four venues regularly ranked
inside Ireland’s top 50 courses.
Prices start from €375 per person for two nights’ bed-and-breakfast and three
rounds of golf, with three-night, four-round packages bookable from €540 per
person.
Five-night, five round breaks – featuring two rounds of golf at PGA National
Ireland and 18 holes at the other three courses – are on offer from €740 per
person, while packages with the same number of rounds and an extra two nights
are bookable from €895 per person.
All tour packages include four-star bed-and-breakfast hotel accommodation at PGA
National Ireland and are based on two people sharing a room.
Set just 90 minutes from Dublin and two hours from Belfast, PGA National
Ireland’s championship course is regarded among Ireland’s finest parkland
layouts and, as well as hosting two European Tour events, was ranked number one
in Ulster in 2018.
Barely an hour’s drive away, County Sligo Golf Club – which is also known as
Rosses Point – was designed by Harry Colt and is rated as one of Ireland’s best
links courses. Home of the West of Ireland Amateur Championship, it has staged
numerous high-profile tournaments including this year’s Irish Open Amateur
Championship.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary last year, Donegal’s par-73 layout offers
magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and Donegal Bay and has been described
by some people as the ‘Muirfield of Ireland’, while Strandhill’s attractive
par-70 course is regarded as being the epitome of golf along Ireland’s stunning
Wild Atlantic Way.
Complementing PGA National Ireland’s golf course is a 222-bedroom, four-star
hotel; an award-winning Ciuin Spa; and an outstanding golf academy where
resident head PGA professional Gordon Smyth and his team is available with
expert tuition, state-of-the-art video analysis and training programmes to help
golfers of all abilities achieve their goals.

About PGA National Ireland Slieve Russell
PGA National Ireland Slieve Russell’s highly acclaimed 18-hole championship
course forms part of the magnificent 300-acre Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf &
Country Club estate. Created by highly-regarded Irish golf architect Patrick
Merrigan, the layout’s clever design wraps attractively around the lakes and
drumlins of the County Cavan landscape.
Designed with a bold and instinctive feel, PGA National Ireland Slieve Russell
is regarded as one of Ireland’s leading parkland venues. A course of stunning
quality both from a visual and a playing perspective, the par-72 layout measures
in excess of 7,000 yards from the back tees and is firmly established among
Ireland’s top 50 courses.
Opened in 1992, the course presents a stern golfing challenge, although one that
is regarded as strategic rather than punitive. The back nine contains some of
the best holes in Ireland, with part of the 50 acres of water that make up the
Slieve Russell estate playing an intricate part in the design.
Located just 90 minutes from Dublin and two hours from Belfast, PGA National
Ireland Slieve Russell has staged numerous major Irish PGA tournaments while its
annual PGA pro-am, which was first held in 1997, has featured a collective prize
fund of €1.2million since it started – the highest paid PGA pro-am tournament in
Ireland. In addition, the club has played host to two European Tour events when
the North West of Ireland Open was held in 2001 and 2002.
PGA National Ireland Slieve Russell is also the home club of up-and-coming Irish
golfing stars Lisa and Leona Maguire, both of whom turned professional in 2018
after stellar amateur careers that saw Leona twice ranked as the world’s number
one amateur, and twin sister Lisa winning 15 amateur titles.
Complementing the golf course is a 222-bedroom, four-star hotel; an
award-winning Ciuin Spa; and an outstanding golf academy where resident head PGA
professional Gordon Smyth and his team are available with expert tuition,
state-of-the-art video analysis and training programmes to help golfers of all
abilities achieve their goals.
