Alcanada er kåret til Europa beste bane - en Robert Trent Jones jr. bane

10.09 Beste banen i Europa:

Her er pressemeldingen:

ALCANADA VOTED BEST GOLF COURSE IN EUROPE
Mallorca’s Club de Golf Alcanada is celebrating being voted the best golf course in Europe for a sixth time after visitors to www.1golf.eu named it their favourite course on the continent.

It is the second successive year users of the top German website have bestowed the impressive title on Alcanada and the latest accolade comes six months after it received the same honour for the fourth time from leading German magazine Golf Journal.

Golfers from 40 countries took part in 1golf.eu’s poll, showing the venue’s global appeal, and the stunning Mallorcan layout beat a host of top courses including the most famous venue in golf, St Andrews Old Course, which claimed third place, and Spain’s renowned Ryder Cup venue Valderamma, which took fifth spot.

Kristoff Both, director at Club de Golf Alcanada, said: “A lot of honours are bestowed upon golf courses but those voted for by golfers are among the most valuable.

“To have been voted as the best course in Europe for a sixth time is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to the hard work put in by everyone at the club from the greenkeepers to the bar staff.

However, we have no intention of resting on our laurels and will work even harder to maintain our own high standards and hopefully add even more accolades to our collection in the future.”

Alcanada’s latest award is further evidence of the venue’s growing reputation in the game after it was chosen to host this year’s outing of the prestigious Copa de S.M. el Rey tournament – regarded as Spanish golf’s amateur championship and won by the likes of Jose Maria Olazabal, Darren Clarke and Sergio Garcia in the past.

Situated in the north region of Mallorca, in a breathtaking location overlooking the Bay of Alcudia, Alcanada’s 18-hole championship course was designed by award-winning golf architect Robert Trent Jones Jnr and opened in 2003.

Adjacent to the Mediterranean, the course blends naturally into the typical Mallorcan terrain and takes its name from an island with a lighthouse which is situated just off the shore, and which can be seen from most of the holes.

Magnificent mountain and sea views and a mixture of pine and olive groves provide the splendid setting for a round at Alcanada and, despite its tender years, the course is already recognised by the golf industry as one of the finest venues in Spain and Europe and is a founder member of The Leading Golf Courses of Spain collection.
